September is Sepsis Awareness Month. Over the next few weeks, we will share information about sepsis and updates about the impact your support has made possible. 

In Rhode Island, EMS providers are able to start preliminary treatment if they suspect a patient they are transporting has sepsis – and send a sepsis alert ahead to a hospital — so that the ER team is ready to begin immediate treatment once the diagnosis is confirmed.

When it comes to sepsis, remember IT’S ABOUT TIME.™ Watch for:

TEMPERATURE - higher or lower than normal

INFECTION - may have signs or symptoms of infection

MENTAL DECLINE - confused, sleepy, difficult to rouse

EXTREMELY ILL - “I feel like I might die,” severe pain or discomfort

Acting quickly could save your life.

If you have these symptoms* don’t be afraid to call 911 or Go to a hospital and say “I’m concerned about SEPSIS”

*Particularly if you recently had an open wound (cut, scrape, bug bite, etc.), surgery, some type of invasive procedure, or infection.
