Kerry Silvia
Kerry is a founding board member of the GCMF. In addition to her work with the Fund, Kerry is a Special Education Teacher at Greenwood Elementary, Gianna’s elementary school.
Kerry’s daughter, Kendra, also attended Greenwood and played soccer with Gianna and her sister, Cassie, through high school at Toll Gate. Just two months before Gianna passed from sepsis, Kendra had strep and mono. She was taken to her ENT, who said she had an abscess on her tonsil that needed to be removed immediately. She was also admitted to the hospital for high dose antibiotics. The doctor said Kendra was lucky she came in, that she could have gone septic. Kerry didn’t really know what that meant, and she didn’t ask questions because the medication worked and Kendra was watched carefully and went home. Little did Kerry and her family know that they would quickly find out just what those words, “could have gone septic,” meant.
The Fund will always be an important part of Kerry’s life, not only because of Kendra’s experience or Gianna’s fight, but because she wants to continue, by keeping Gianna’s memory alive, to educate others about sepsis and support the Cirella family.
